What I love best about tutoring is enabling a student to "get it"; meaning that the light bulb goes on for them and they start to understand the material. I have taught for over 20 years and have been tutoring for over 3 years. I enjoy working with students, especially in elementary/middle school.
My qualifications include licensure in NC, MN, WI, CA, and OH. I have taught elementary grades 2 - 5, and middle school grades 6 - 8. My teaching strengths are in Math, Science, and Reading/Writing. I have also spent a great deal of time as both a gifted/talented teacher/coordinator and a resource teacher for students with special learning needs. I have an abundance of patience and many ways to help make the material more understandable.
I have taught Math at the elementary level for over 5 years.
My undergraduate degree is in social sciences with a strong emphasis in psychology and social welfare.
As a resource teacher for grades K through 4, I have strong ability with reading assessments, and assisting students with different methodology and approaches to reading to help develop skills and abilities, as well as strengthen reading ability.
I have taught science from grades 2 to 8 for over 10 years; including Life, Physical, and Earth Science.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
