Hi, I'm Avril B., I am primarily an ESL Instructor, however, I have worked/tutored mainstream students who simply needed help with writing, reading, vocabulary, and basic English grammar. I have a true passion for English, and English literature, and I try to encourage all my students to explore various types of literature in their pursuit of a better understanding of the English Language. Through reading, I believe that students can grasp the basics of any language; its grammatical structures, vocabulary, how the language works in both a written and spoken contexts.
As an instructor, I believe that learning should be combined with fun, and I try to make all my classes interesting by bringing an element of whimsy through a variety of self-created games and activities that serve to enhance the learning experience. I think outside the box, and I encourage my students to do the same because I truly believe that there are many different paths to learning that may be outside of what could be considered "textbook learning."
I love working one on one with students. I believe that the one on one interaction between student and teacher, affords the teacher an opportunity to cater each lesson to the student's specific educational needs. As an instructor, I will be respectful, considerate, and devoted to each individual student because I truly believe that these attitudes are conducive to a successful learning environment.
I look forward to meeting and working with students, and to helping them achieve their academic goals.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
