I have had a heart for teaching ever since I was a little girl. There is nothing more rewarding than to see a student's eyes light up when they "get it." I have been a teacher and tutor for over 15 years; I am the Executive Director of an educational ministry at my church. We host a special summer camp each year where we show kids how to have fun as they explore the world around them and learn at the same time! I would love to help anyone, children or adults, get excited about learning; it must be a personal experience so understanding can take place. That makes it easier to move forward and reach higher toward new goals!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been an adult Sunday School teacher for 15 years. I also served as Sunday School director for many years and developed and implemented a summer camp for grades K-8.
I worked for five years for a national organization to help many diverse elementary students, many with ADHD. I am currently working to help adults with their elementary education as well. At my last employment, I developed and implemented an after-school tutoring program which went very well. I have also done private tutoring.
I have a Bachelor's of English from University of North Carolina at Wilmington and a Master's in English from East Carolina University.
I was employed for five years with the national organization "Communities In Schools," during which time I worked closely with elementary students to improve their math and reading skills. To assist them with phonics, I utilized a standards-based program called Plato Learning, which utilized handheld gameboys to increase interest and made learning a fun experience.
Part of my job as an Adult Basic Education Instructor includes teaching students, ranging in age from 16 to 70, how to develop study skills which will help them succeed in education and will carry over to help them become a success in life.
I have a Master's Degree in English with a concentration in Multicultural and Transnational Literature. I studied under some of the most demanding professors and have become a better tutor/teacher because of that. Being analytical is a bonus for anyone who needs my assistance in Writing.
