About Joey

Hello!

I am a current adjunct sociology instructor . I have two years experience teaching and planning both social problems and introduction to sociology courses. I love to teach, I love to get students excited and interested in Sociology and Anthropology.

I enjoy helping students examine a diverse sample of social problems and address their implications and effects on members of society. My goal as a teacher or tutor is to provide students with the tools to: identify specific social problems and their cause-effect patterns, critically evaluate the proposed ways to alleviate the major social problems facing society today, develop critical thinking and writing skills, and use learned concepts to support the students understanding of social problems.

Sociology is a subject I feel passionate about and I would love to help students feel the same! experience, with social problems being the last course I taught. The most important step a teacher or tutor can take and what I want to cultivate in the students I work with is to help students develop critical thinking skills and create a positive learning environment.

By providing this type of environment for students an example is set for students to follow, and it also allows students to share their ideas openly without fear of repercussions. Students bring to the table a diverse set of worldviews to the learning experience. I believe it is the responsibility of the teacher or tutor to take a neutral stance and encourage students to think critically about what they know and what they are learning, helping them to blend the two. I look forward to meeting you and helping to get you excited about learning!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Anthropology

Welcome!
I am currently an adjunct instructor of sociology and I also hold a BA in Anthropology.
As a teacher or tutor, I enjoy helping students examine the anthropological study of different cultures, including ways of comparing and contrasting the structures of social relationships and belief systems that operate in different cultural settings . By helping students to understand the world views and belief systems of other cultures, they can better understand their own culture.

Sociology

I am currently an adjunct sociology instructor. I have two years experience teaching and planning both social problems and introduction to sociology courses. As a teacher or tutor of Sociology I feel it is important to address prominent social problems in American society, and on a global scale.
