While I have taught high school Spanish for over four years, it is the many years that I have spent traveling and discovering the world that have shaped me as a person. I have lived, studied, volunteered, traveled and worked in Mexico, Panama, Ecuador, Nicaragua, Brazil and many other places. I love learning languages and I believe that the world would be a better place if we all had the opportunity to learn another language and communicate across the cultural and language barriers that often confine us.
I have a passion for teaching Spanish, and for inspiring other students to learn Spanish and discover more about themselves and the world. My intercultural experiences have changed me as a person, and I wish to support many more students in their personal journeys of self-discovery, language learning, and intercultural communication. I strive to make language learning a fun and enjoyable experience. I very much enjoyed learning Spanish and I want my students to see that learning a language is an adventure not to be missed.
Learning Spanish is much more than grammar and verb conjugations; it is about opening a door to communication. Learning Spanish is about being able to express yourself in new ways and communicating with people so different from yourself. This is the philosophy that I take. Yes, I can explain grammar to you, but I would much rather tell you about my experience swinging on a vine in the Amazon jungle or exploring the Galapagos...and how I used my Spanish to do so.
I would love to meet you and share with you my passion for learning and using Spanish..and other languages. While I have taught high school Spanish for over four years, it is the many years that I have spent traveling and discovering the world that have shaped me as a person. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
