About Stephen

I love working with people in many different facets. Teaching is great because, often times, I learn more by teaching than I do by studying. I love learning and sharing what I learn with others.

I had an excellent education in a private school from Pre-K all the way through high school. English and history were always my strongest subjects. I have always loved reading and writing and, now, I share that love with my two children, 4 and 2. I have previously taught Sunday school children from ages 9-13. I have a passion for passing on great education by taking information and making it fun, interesting, and exciting. Few things are more gratifying, to me, than teaching and watching students learn and grasp new concepts and ideas for the first time.

I spent five years in the United States Marine Corps working in the Intelligence field. Much of my spare time in the Marine Corps was spent studying various fields. I believe the more I learn, the more I grow. The more I learn, the more I can share with others.

I earned a Bachelor's degree in African-American studies and I am halfway through completing my Master's degree in Theological Studies. There is much more education that I want to have and I will use the remainder of my GI bill to get it in the future.

Reading and writing have always been subjects that have come very naturally to me. Many times I have tutored my fellow classmates to help them comprehend lessons and to help them test well. I often proofread papers for my wife and have done so, for classmates, many times in the past.

Learning and teaching are fun. I enjoy meeting and talking with new people and I am excited to sharpen my mind and skills by working with sharp, young minds. Please contact me when you are ready to learn. We can learn together and from one another.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Bible Studies

I grew up going to church 4 times every week, with Sunday school every Sunday, and I attended the church's school from Pre-K through 12th grade. Every day at school started with chapel which consisted of worship and a message, much like church. The first period of every day was Bible class. We learned about the Bible in increasing detail and complexity through the years and were tested regularly.
I have, since, studied the Bible extensively on my own and I am halfway finished with my Master's Degree in Theological Studies at the Liberty University Seminary School.
I have also taught Sunday school and led church and military Bible study groups.

Reading

I am college educated and worked in the Intelligence field during my time on active duty in the Marine Corps. I currently work with my daughter to help her learn to read before she starts Kindergarten this year. I enjoy reading and read from a good book almost every day.

Volleyball

I played 4 years of competitive volleyball in high school; 1 year Junior Varsity and I was moved to Varsity in 10th grade making a total of 3 years on the Varsity team. I was a key player in our Sectional and Regional Championship games. I played in a summer beach volleyball league every summer from 9th grade until I was a senior in college. I played college volleyball at SUNY Cortland and I played on some rec leagues while I was in the Marine Corps.
