I have been an elementary teacher for 20 years. I have come to appreciate the different ways students learn and how important it is to get to know your students and their different learning styles. I have also tutored in after school programs in school and in 21st Century Learning Programs after schools. Tutoring affords teachers the time to just teach and not focus so much on the extra curriculum activities that are required in the everyday classroom. I enjoy one on one teacher to student learning - a teacher can focus on just that one student and the academics that are specific to that particular student's needs. Many students in a whole group setting are shy and afraid of getting the answers incorrect but when teaching one on one, students are surprised that they can learn and answer questions correctly without being judged by their peers because every child is smart in their own way.
Build up a child's self-esteem is the most important thing. Positive reinforcement has to be consistent with a child's learning. One (an educator) has to build up a child knowledge base and let them feel that they can do it and do their very best and that is all a teacher can do. Positive self-esteem is half the battle in the education field today - students who are struggling need to know - think positive and do your very best - if you have done this - this is an accomplishment within itself. Finally, one on one tutoring allows many teachers or tutors to do this with students they met and come in contact with everyday. I have learned this from my experience while teaching in the school system.
I was a reading coach for 1 year. I have taught all subjects but teaching reading was my primary focus in third grade, so I thoroughly enjoy teaching reading. I have experience teaching all students in grades K-6.
I am an outstanding common core teacher because all of the students I have taught in testing grades showedgrowth after testing on the end of grade test. My primary focus was teaching common core skills especially in reading - teaching students how to answer open ended questions that are common core driven.
Teaching experience in grades 5-6 for 20 years. I have 2 to 5 years experience teaching and tutoring in after schools programs in Scotland, Richmond, and Raeford counties. Tutoring was one of my favorites things to do because you are basically teaching without distractions.
Selecting me as your tutor will allow you to be involved in a structured fun, learning environment with the end result being you will show growth in the specific subject you need assistance with. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
