I taught Marketing Education at a local Senior High School for eight years. Though Marketing Education classes are electives, they cover math, counting money and giving change, reading, writing, economics, critical thinking, selling and computer marketing programs.
I really enjoy teaching students who want to learn. I think it is very important that the teacher and student are compatible and the student WANTS to learn in order for the student to be successful in life.
I am currently a Growing Readers Mentor at an Elementary School and have been there since 2006. I really enjoy teaching and know how extremely IMPORTANT it is to be able to read, write and math! I mentored students in kindergarten, first graders and second grader who were registered in the Growing Readers program by their teachers and approved by their parents/parent/guardian.
When teaching marketing, my students learned to read and respond to customers letters, as well as computing sales discounts, employee discounts and sales tax, operating a cash register and give change and how to properly treat all customers.
My teaching experience taught me that people learn in different ways like some remember by hearing, others by seeing [ex. written, pictures, diagrams, etc.] and others by doing [ex. reading aloud, working a problem, finding the solution, etc.]
It is important to me and the potential student that our tutoring sessions FOCUS on areas that he/she would like/needs assistance in. I look forward to speaking with you to see if I will be able to meet your requirements.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a double major in Marketing and Management from the University of South Carolina received on May 16, 1987 as Mary Nanette H.
In Christ's Name,
After acquiring my BSBA with a double major in Marketing and Management I attended Francis Marion University in Florence, SC to be certified to teach Marketing Education to high school students. I became employed with Richmond County Schools in Hamlet, NC, and taught Marketing Education from 1990 to 2000 at a Senior High School.
I retired in 2000 from teaching high school. While I was teaching, I came to realize how IMPORTANT it is for students to MASTER READING in elementary school. I had high school students who had no confidence &/or could not read aloud in class, much less comprehend what they were reading silently. I am currently and have been volunteering since 2005 as a Reading Mentor for an Elementary School in Rockingham, NC. I love teaching reading strategies students can use when they are reading alone so they will become an independent reader.
