American Military University
I have a Associate's Degree in Paraprofessional Education (Teacher's Aide) and I am currently enrolled at American Military University, majoring in Bachelor's of Arts in History. I transferred from University of Phoenix in 2011 to pursue my degree in History. At University of Phoenix, I was majoring in English and Literature. I have a child that was diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome, so I have experience working with high functioning autistic children on a daily basis.
For elementary students I use reward systems and games to hone skills in problem areas. I provide all materials for elementary students. The name of the game for elementary kids is fun, fun, and more fun. It takes the stress out of learning. For middle school and high school students, I use common sense approaches to each subject. Because middle and high school levels are more advanced topics, I do not provide any materials for these levels. I think it’s really important for any child struggling with writing and English to learn a proper writing process instead of just diving into an essay. Focus is placed on brainstorming, research, and outlining. I show students how to "build" their paper so the essay is organized, accurate, and thorough. If you have any questions about my approaches for a specific subject, please inquire when you contact me.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
English experience ranges from elementary level covering grammar, spelling, and reading to college level literature, writing, and English classes.
Building a successful routine for homework and study time is important to the success of any student. For elementary students, the most vital tool any tutor can provide is fun learning. If you can show the real-life need of the subjects mixed with fun games and activities that will increase the child's retention of the information, the child will succeed.
