In all of my tutoring I seek to spark a passion for learning so that my students not only know a topic, but love the topic. My 7 years of teaching experience span a wide array of subjects I love, such as debate, art, piano, and general homeschooling.
Currently I am a government major participating in moot court and debate at the top moot court college in the nation, where I am the recipient of 9 major merit scholarships, 3 of them specifically for public speaking/debate. I hold 8 national-level awards in speech and debate and am the coauthor of a 400-page debate book published by Lasting Impact Speech and Debate.
As a teacher, my experience includes 2 years helping homeschool 4 children ages 2 to 10 (one of them special-needs); 6 years managing my own piano studio, teaching 16 students ages 4 to 16; one year co-leading a weekly online high school debate club; and 9 months teaching a weekly in-person art class to 12 adults and homeschooled teens, covering drawing, color theory, and acrylics. In addition, for 5 years I’ve enjoyed serving our church as a teacher and childcare volunteer.
A huge source of my passion for learning comes from being homeschooled myself K-12 with the flexibility to study under a wide variety of teachers, online and in person, teachers whose enthusiasm made reading, history, communication, and science come alive. I strive to share that same excitement with all of my students! It’s important to me to foster a warm, welcoming environment where students feel valued. I love working with kids of all ages and finding the best way to help them learn according to each one’s unique needs. By making each lesson fun and exciting with beneficial games and activities, they can grow in a way that will not only produce expertise, but also an exuberance for learning.
