I believe in instilling a life-long love of learning in my students. I want to make learning fun and engaging; there is so much to learn and I want my students to learn that it doesn't have to be drudgery - it can be a blast!
I have been a teacher since the early 1990s. My first class was a kindergarten ESL class. I have experience teaching students with limited English language skills, inner city students, suburban students, students with learning disabilities, and students with ADHD. Everyone is capable of learning - it's just a matter of finding the right motivation to match a student's interests and then making it fun and interesting. I have never given up on a student and I never will!
I am a published author with several magazine articles in circulation. I have a love for the nuances of the English language and it's proper use. Grammar is a particular subject I feel is lacking in formal education in this day and age. Once one understands the proper use of grammar, it opens up a whole new understanding of reading and writing.
I spent many years in the elementary school classroom - teaching kindergarten, first, and third grades. I ran several clubs for all ages of elementary students, including a journalism club for third through fifth graders. It was amazing to see what wonderful writers developed out of motivated students!
Most of my teaching experience has been with the lower grades, teaching kindergartners and first graders how to read. I have also worked with students in the third grade who were not reading on grade level and helped them to reevaluate the way they looked at reading and build their decoding skills to enable them to improve their reading levels drastically.
I am available to tutor Monday-Friday from 9am to 8pm. My weekend hours are Saturday from 10am to 9pm and Sunday from 11am to 8pm. I charge $35/hr for a one to one tutoring session. I am available at a separate rate for hours outside the ones listed. I will travel to your home or a public location near you.
I look forward to working with your student and helping them reach their goals! I believe in instilling a life-long love of learning in my students. I want to make learning fun and engaging; there is so much to learn and I want my students to learn that it doesn't have to be drudgery - it can be a blast!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
