I'm a highly qualified, retired teacher with 30+ years of experience helping students reach their highest academic potential. I have a strong knowledge of the elementary education core curriculum and will work hard to meet the instructional needs of each child. During my last five years of teaching in Wake County, I worked exclusively with small groups of students needing support in literacy. Literacy consist of decoding, vocabulary, grammar, comprehension, fluency, and writing.
Becoming a proofreader is a natural extension of my love of reading and the English language. Friends and family have given me papers to edit for many years. I just have a talent for spotting spelling, punctuation, and grammatical errors in books, menus, signs, flyers and other documents.
After retirement, I received my certification in ESL. I would delight in working with adults or children in their efforts to acquire and use our language effectively when reading, writing, and speaking.
I love language! I grew up in an era when grammar was taught in school as a subject. We were taught the parts of speech and how to diagram and label sentence parts. When teaching vocabulary, there are sight words for grades K-3 a student must master because they can't be decoded. Other vocabulary is learned via similar word patterns.
As for ESL adults, I would follow the same procedure. However, if the student has a particular goal or area of interest, we can work on their personal goals.
I have taught Pre-K, K, and first grade for a total of 30 years. As for phonics instruction, I start from the beginning with assessments to determine what specific objectives need to be mastered to become a successful reader. As a result, I plan lessons to meet their needs.
Do you want to be an effective, confident, reader? Do you want reading to be enjoyable rather than stressful? Do you want to be comfortable reading, writing and speaking English? Are you looking for someone to proofread your writing? Contact me. It will be a beneficial partnership! Hello,

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
