Hi! My name is John, and I served as a peer tutor in high school for struggling seniors and assisted them in getting back on track for graduation. I also helped local elementary schoolers that were behind their grade level in math or reading. During the summer, I work as a camp counselor for young campers aged 5-13. I genuinely enjoy working with students and helping them achieve success, so tutoring is a great way for me to do so!
I have experience specifically tutoring students in chemistry and calculus (including pre calculus), as well as Math 1 and 2 of Common Core. I can also assist students in any math course at a lower level than calculus. I myself have been tutored in chemistry and calculus in the past, so I have experience on both sides of the tutoring spectrum and have a great understanding of the characteristics of a good tutor. Based on my experiences, my goal as a tutor is to provide an environment of encouragement as well as assistance. I hope to push students towards success without directly giving them the answers, but rather guiding them towards the answers.
I achieved high marks in Algebra 1 and 2 while in 7th and 9th grades, respectively (got A's in both). Since prealgebra is a precursor to Algebra 1 and 2, my understanding of this class is solid, as well. I took calculus in high school and here at NC State and succeeded in both (A+ in Calculus 1 at NCSU - currently enrolled in Calculus 3). I have always loved math and plan on minoring in mathematics.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have played golf competitively since I was 8 years old (currently 19). I have received countless golf lessons and have been playing at a high level for many years. I have experience teaching young kids golf in the past at golf camps and know the rules and etiquette of the game very well.
