About Matthew

I'm a recent graduate of international studies and French at the University of Denver. As a student, I tutored and helped other students with their French comprehension, as well as their writing (in French and English).

I maintained a 3.9 GPA in French and have read many different types of work such as novels, operas, and newspaper articles alike. I have performed research regarding protests in Francophone countries, where I was required to translate articles from French to English in order to ascertain important data.

I'm excited to get back into tutoring because I love figuring out how to get from point A to point B with everyone that I help. It is enjoyable to find a solution or ways of understanding new ideas as there is not a one-size-fits-all solution for any type of learning. Understanding patterns comes with repetition and there are many ways of doing that. I would like to help you succeed through discovering what works best for you.

I spent five months in Belgium while in college, living with a host family, and interning with a non-governmental organization that conducted its day-to-day operations in French and English. I have a lot of experience over eight years of learning French through speaking, reading, and writing.

I have been writing as a hobby since I was very young. Professionally, I have written formal letters to members of European Parliament, reached out to Holocaust survivors to speak at community centers in the area, and represented my college as an admissions blogger to help students realize that the University of Denver is the college for them.

I love grammar, editing, proofreading, and conveying important ideas through writing. I have always striven to be an excellent writer because there are few better ways to communicate than through formal writing.

Please do not hesitate to contact me! I would be happy to work with anyone that needs help learning French, writing essays, or preparing for their upcoming SAT or ACT for gaining admission to college.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

French

I have studied French for eight years in middle school, high school, and college. I majored in French while attending the University of Denver, and graduated with a 3.9 GPA in the language. I studied abroad for five months in Brussels, Belgium, lived with a host family, and interned with a non-governmental organization that specializes in youth policymaking. I am able to teach with textbooks, as well as with personal methods, or as needed for each individual student.

Geography

I have been studying Geography since 1st grade and read the world almanac voraciously until high school. I have all of the world capitals memorized and have most of the countries on the world map memorized, as well. Geography is not taught in schools too frequently, so I would be happy to help anyone that needs help whether it is just for part of the map in a history class, or a foreign language class. It is also great to learn about cultures, foods, languages, and different states of being in many parts of the world. I would be happy to touch on that as needed.
