About Jon

As a student in the School of Filmmaking at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, earning my BFA, I concentrated in screenwriting and have written several scripts, as well as other creative and academic endeavors from narrative fiction to poetry to informative and insightful essays.

The School of Filmmaking at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts requires all students to engage in their world-class, and well-respected, hands-on intensive training program with the most current and up-to-date film/video/television production equipment and techniques according to industry standards as well as engaging in all aspects of production from writing and directing to cinematography and post-production.

As an artist, it is important for me to continually broaden my intellectual horizons. Knowledge, whether gained academically or empirically, is indispensable to our personal and global pursuits. Comprehension and application are the cornerstones of successful learning and I enjoy sharing in that process.

I understand that each person has their own individual method of learning and I can easily adapt to meet those needs. I don't believe in simple regurgitation as a measure of understanding. I engage and inspire people and cultivate in them a sense of importance for their education and pursuits. I believe wisdom comes with perseverance and like the sun rising each day, learning never stops!

History and geography have always been true passions of mine since I was young. Along with my primary studies while at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, I engaged heavily with their Anthropology department. And I elected to study World History to 1500, World History since 1500, Physical Anthropology, Cultural Anthropology, Archaeology, Human Evolution, and Academic Geography.

I have a thirst for knowledge and a desire to share it and help others better understand the world around us. If you are struggling in any of my listed areas of interest and would like assistance, please feel free to contact me to find how I can help.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

English

As a student in the School of Filmmaking at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, earning my BFA, I concentrated in screenwriting and have written several scripts, as well as other creative and academic endeavors from narrative fiction to poetry to informative and insightful essays. Grammar, syntax, spelling, diction, and vocabulary are essential to communication in an evolving language like English. Through the understanding of these concepts I can help students express themselves in a myriad of creative outlets.
