Physics, Mathematics, and SAT Tutor
Tutoring has been passion of mine for over 5 years. I'm great at taking complicated concepts and reintroducing them in more palatable forms. I love being able to draw from everyday real-world examples to better convey physics and mathematics concepts to students. I worked as a Supplemental Instruction Leader for the Student Success Centers at both the University of South Carolina and the University of North Florida for a combined total of 3 years. I was responsible for organizing three weekly 50-minute sessions of various collaborative learning activities to help students best understand the material at hand.
Additionally, I interned as a teaching assistant at Stanton College Preparatory School where I gave AP and IB Physics lectures at one of the top-ranked magnet schools in the country.
I graduated Magna Cum Laude at the University of North Florida with a B.S. in Physics and a concentration in Astrophysics. At UNF I received the 2019 Outstanding Graduate award for my work as the Tutor Coordinator in Physics department and Supplemental Instruction involvement. I am currently a Physics PhD student, new to the triangle area, and I’m very excited to continue tutoring here and to help new students realize their academic potential while having fun in the process.
I believe it's important for students to not simply memorize the steps for solving problems but understand the process, as understanding sticks with students for far longer than memorization. In my tutoring sessions I strive to make sure students understand the material and can apply what they know with problems that are slightly different from what they've seen before. I make it a point to weave in pieces of theory and give background that help reinforce the methodology by providing a deeper rationale.
In regards to Standardized Test Prep, I focus on giving students the tools to approach test-taking with confidence. Content is important, but I also make sure to help students develop a strategy that can get them moving in the right d

Kenya tutored my daughter for the SAT and we had a great experience. First off, we had left things to the very last minute and we needed a solution in place fast. Kenya was super responsive to our initial communications and really worked hard to make my daughter comfortable in this new learning atmosphere. Kenya helped put the focus on the right competency areas as well as the best tactics for taking the test. The results were a 210 point improvement in her score and a more confident and empowered young woman ready to take on the world. Thanks Kenya!Christian, 28 lessons with Kenya
Kind and Knowledgeable
Kenya was so helpful and knowledgeable about all the physics topics my son was having trouble with such as angular motion. Her times were flexible so he had no problem finding a time to meet. He felt more prepared and confident for his exams. We highly recommend Kenya for all your physics needs!Lori, 4 lessons with Kenya
IB Physics help
Ms. Kenya helps my high school senior with his IB Physics, and as always she goes above and beyond. She stays with a problem until he understands. She will "squeeze" him in if she can with not much notice. Definitely the best decision we made. 😊Ann H, 8 lessons with Kenya
Very knowledgeable and helpful
My son was able to better understand the honors chemistry unit he was working on. Kenya helped him with understanding molecular geometry and electronegativity differences. He left with a smile on his face and a better comprehension of the materials. We look forward to working with Kenya again in the future.Leslie, 3 lessons with Kenya
Excellent Physics Tutor
After the first lesson our daughter announced that Kenya is her favorite tutor ever. She had several lessons with another physics tutor and was very frustrated. She says Kenya is wonderful at explaining things. Happy kiddo, happy mom! Thanks Kenya!Jane, 14 lessons with Kenya
Knowledgeable and very patient.
Honors algebra 2 - Ms. Kenya was very patient with me and knowledgeable! I feel I understand the course a little better which will bring my grade up. Although we had a few hiccups getting started not due to any fault of Ms. Kenya, I’m glad we finally made the tutoring session happen! Thank you Ms. Kenya!Pat, 14 lessons with Kenya

GRE Test Prep
I have taken the GRE twice and did not receive the desired score. I searched for a tutor and found Kenya. Today was our first session and I already feel a little more confident in prepping to take the GRE...again...simply bc just from today’s session, I got a warm fuzzy that Kenya really knows what she’s talking about and I am looking forward to our future sessions and I am hopeful to write a final review stating that I received the score I need for the GRE bc of KENYA! Thank you Kenya for a great first session.AJ, 4 lessons with Kenya
