I knew I was interested in education from an early age, when I would force my younger sisters to be my students as I taught them everything I'd learned in school that day. This interest endured throughout my teen years, as I joined my mother at her Montessori school to be a teacher's aide after my classes, later in my collegiate studies when I volunteered as a tutor to the local middle school, and also when I helped my fellow classmates with their study techniques.
In my post collegiate life, I dedicated myself to ESL and Basic Literacy tutoring as a volunteer for Greater New Haven county. There I learned skills necessary to provide goal oriented instruction to a variety of different ages and learning abilities. I am very patient and versatile, with a working knowledge of the VARK method of instruction, a style that allows individuals to learn the way that *they* learn best.
I offer more than 15 years of progressive advancement in the education and childcare industry; serving diverse functions, including English teacher. I demonstrate a proven record of success in leadership, streamlining assessments, and facilitating student academic achievement. I am extremely experienced in curriculum development, classroom management, and student evaluations. I also possess exceptional communication and critical thinking skills and the ability to multi-task.
I have taught in three countries, and to ages 4-50. I specialize in English instruction, including grammar, vocabulary, and composition. I scored highly on the English portion of the SAT's and taught test prep for a year to South Korean high schoolers. My tutoring style is individualized with your personal goals as a guide. I use a combination of worksheets and activities designed to encourage intellectual growth at a manageable pace. Any homework assigned is geared toward the acquisition of skills, never busy work. I also provide honest feedback and assessments to keep you on track.
I am flexible with time, but do require at least 12 hours notice for cancellation. I am open to travel to you, within the greater Raleigh area, or we could meet in a location of your choosing in the downtown area. I offer an initial 20 minute free consultation, where we will assess your needs together and design a plan to meet your goals. Following that, we will arrange a tutoring schedule that is convenient and manageable.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
