My name is Megan and I am a recent graduate from North Carolina State University, majoring in Animal Science and a minoring in Psychology. I am working to eventually attend veterinary school. I was a member of the Honors program, a member of the Society of Research and Inquiry, the Sustainability Committee, and the Society of Public Scholarship. I have been working since the age of thirteen and most of my recent jobs have applied to the field of animal science, therefore, the sciences are my specialty. My teaching style is hands-on, utilizing me as a demonstrator or model, and allowing the student to apply that knowledge on their own. I appreciate questions from the student, curiosity, and student participation. I utilize real world examples to exhibit the significance of the topic and encourage interest and passion in the acquisition of knowledge.

My first tutoring experience came from the Learnworks program that focused on helping elementary school students that were referred to the community center for behavioral problems, learning disorders, and trouble with English. I spent over ten hours a week for two years in high school tutoring and leading the Cooking and Drama clubs. I worked with the same third and fourth grade students each day, and helped bring their grades up. In college, I have privately tutored college students in both English and Biology courses and helped many friends with their academics. I also worked for a tutoring company while at North Carolina State University and tutored math.

The courses I tutor include: Biology, Chemistry, Animal Science courses, English courses, Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Geometry, Economics, Public Speaking, and Psychology courses. I have created my own curriculum multiple times for math courses such as Pre-Algebra, Algebra, and Geometry. I work with students on study skills and assist certain students by providing homework help. I am also excellent with SAT preparation, helping to bring up a friend's overall score by 400 points. My score on the SAT was 2280, doing best on the writing and reading. I have tutored over 20 students on the SAT and all of them have brought up their score by at least 200 points. Overall, I am a well-rounded intellectual with social skills and a passion for helping students.

I took COM 110 while at North Carolina State University, which is the Public Speaking course. I obtained an A in the course, and tutored my Chinese friend in COM 110 the following semester, also aiding in improving her English. I have a strong English background, obtaining a 5 on the AP English test and an A in IB English in high school. I also have spoken at many events, and served as a Culture to Culture Ambassador, which is similar to an Orientation Leader for International students. This requires public speaking skills, especially since not all of the students are fully proficient at English.

Knowledgeable and effective tutor

Megan has been an excellent resource for supporting my daughter prepare for the SAT and for teaching her study strategies that have resulted in more than 8 point improvement on her tests at the community college level.

Very helpful!

Helped my son raise his grade from a low F to a high B in just a few weeks, just in time for the final! Couldn't have done it without her. Would recommend to others.

Knowledgeable, Patient, Well Organized

Megan was awesome. She was well organized and prepared for my son's tutoring session in Algebra. He was preparing for a test and was more confident in knowing the material when he was done. She also followed up with some practice problems for him to do before taking his test just to make sure he understood the material and provided the answers for us to check once he was done. I will definitely use her again.

The utter thoughtfulness she gives to each student is incredible

With every lesson (and only 2 so far), the confidence level of my daughter increases. Obviously teachers have a daunting task to teach classes with upwards of 25 students per class. Megan not only understands the material, she takes the time to understand the student, and tailor the lessons to focus on those deficiencies. I’m very pleased thus far.

Wonderful tutor

She's always easy to communicate with. She doesn't waste any time. My 9 year old really enjoys her 2 hours with Megan. Megan catches her weaknesses and works on strengthening just that.

knowledgeable

Megan is good in what she does. In a very short period of time she knows my son’s weakness and is working towards that. She gives him homework so he can improve. Megan what do you suggest we do in regards to vocabulary. He doesn’t have much time before he sits for his first SAT

She did a good job with my son.

From my discussions with Megan and with my son, she did a good job of ensuring that he understood exponential rules, especially those involving equations with variables and fractions. She also got him on the right track with regards to logarithms.
