With Bachelor's degrees in Asian Studies and Drama, and a Master's in Sociology, my mission is to provide an intellectually rigorous learning experience in a flexible, creative environment. Need to know how ancient Greek philosophy relates to modern American film, or what the heck your teacher means when they say, "globalization" and how to build a puppet show about it? I'm the tutor for you! Haven't quite worked out how to make your child's Shakespeare reading unit accessible, or studying their world history timeline fun? I'm there. LD/ADD? I have been the ADD child convinced that they just "couldn't" do math or concentrate long enough to complete longer reading assignments, and would love to help bolster your student's confidence and love of learning. ESL learner? I've worked with bilingual folks of all ages, including in my own family, and see this as a strength, not a limitation.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have studied American history from several perspectives in addition to those usually taught in high school (theatrical, women's history, labor movements, focusing on people of color, etc) and believe that there is important material there that can engage any student.
I have experience in reading education at all levels; I have tutored basic comprehension and sentence mechanics as well as edited graduate level materials in Sociology for English language learners.
A background in theater and oral interpretation, as well as academic and personal experience with ADHD, mean that I have additional skills in making reading fun, accessible and engaging.
