University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (English)
I majored in English at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. Go Tar Heels! I also minored in Creative Writing and History, and would also be interested in tutoring those subjects. In high school, I made a 1300 on the Reading/Math portion of the SAT, and I scored a 5 on the AP English Literature Exam. This past summer, I passed the Praxis for English Content (HS), Middle School ELA (6-8), as well as the Praxis PLT (7-12).
What teaching experience do I have? Well, I have taught High School English with Teach for America in Tulsa, OK and Charlotte, NC. I have learned a lot about helping students with IEPs, differentiated learning methods, and making even the most boring subject matter come to life through my Professional Development and experience teaching with TFA, Webster High School, and Garinger High School. I am currently teaching middle school ELA in Apex, NC.
I love English Literature, and therefore love teaching it. In books we can learn so much about other worlds, other people, and ultimately ourselves. The students I teach will learn how to not only be great readers, but superior analytic thinkers who can communicate with the world through strong written and verbal skills. Give me the opportunity to enrich your education by sharing my knowledge. I majored in English at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. Go Tar Heels! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Additionally, as a middle school teacher I have worked closely with my team teachers. This includes the team math teacher. I oftentimes help tutor students in math during working lunch.
