North Carolina State University (Master's)
As a recent graduate of North Carolina State University, I have my Masters in Teaching with a North Carolina license with highly qualified status in Secondary and Middle Grades Social Studies. I am energetic, well-spoken, team-oriented educator with great communication skills, and have a passion for fostering potential. My ability to build positive relationships with students and peers, variety of teaching experiences, and recent coursework in curriculum and instruction strategies, integration and writing across curricula will enable me to be a great asset to your social studies department.
During my placement at Leesville Road High School, I learned and utilized a wide variety of teaching strategies. For example, I designed all my units and lessons by first consulting the North Carolina Essential Standards, the appropriate Common Core Standards, as well as the Wake County Public Schools System’s pacing guide. My students’ experiences were enriched by lessons differentiated for different types of learners, students with IEPs and 504 Plans as well as for ELL students. I regularly assessed my students, both formally and informally, to measure their success in each unit. Furthermore, I made adjustments to my lessons based on the results of those assessments. I encouraged my students to engage with the material. They regularly collaborated on assignments that required them to be creative and to think critically about the concepts that I was presenting them. Above all, I challenged my students to take an active interest in the subject matter by ensuring that they knew what they were going to learn each day and why.
As part of my student teaching and observation experiences, I had the opportunity to work with both departmental and professional learning teams. I actively participated in the US History teachers to help develop common goals and milestones for the forthcoming American History II course. I also actively participated in departmental discussions about proposed changes to Leesville’s schedule.
My experiences beyond graduate school have enhanced my success as an educator. My leadership experience in a fast-paced, demanding manufacturing environment taught me how to remain calm and collected in the face of high-stress, challenging situations. Furthermore, it provided me with valuable experience in working with a wide variety of people. In addition, my traveling experience in both Europe and Asia gave me crucial experiences with living and working with other cultures. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
