ADHD

ADHD

I have teacher certification in and over 13 years teaching experience in special education and have worked with numerous students with ADHD. In order to develop effective study and focus strategies, students learn about their individual learning style through self-assessment and interactive activities. Making lists, developing routines and schedules, and taking quality breaks lead to improved self-monitoring as well as greater success.
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

During my more than 13 years in education, I have worked with people with autism. This has included public school teaching as both regular and special education teacher, private tutoring, enrichment classes and as a personal care assistant. Additionally, I have participated in continuing education opportunities on social, academic and life skills development. Due to my highly structured, yet understanding and patient lessons, parents have requested me to work with their children. I firmly believe in People First not only as a language, but in getting to know a who a person is and building a relationship with him/her.
Drawing

Drawing

I have K-12 art certification in NC, VA and PA. Also, I have taught summer art day camps that exposed students to a variety of media, including drawing. I have experience as a resident art teacher at an art center in PA. In these experiences, students learn how to draw still-life, contour, perspective and abstract works. They are given demonstrations and then guidance as they practice drawing themselves. Moreover, they are given examples of past and current artists.
Dyslexia

Dyslexia

I am a special education teacher with over 13 years public school teaching and private tutoring experience. I also have my Master's of Science in Reading. Additionally, I have trained to be able to test, identify and work with students who have reading difficulties including dyslexia. Helping students who struggle to read is a team effort. As I tutor, I aim to work with the child's teachers as well as communicate with parents about effective reading/decoding strategies for their child. With individualized and consistent instruction, I have had students not only "lift the words off the page" but also build confidence and acquire a more positive attitude toward the reading experience.
Elementary (K-6th)

Additionally, I am National Writing Project Teacher-Consultant with 6 graduate credit hours in writing. Most importantly, I strive to create a safe and enjoyable writing environment so students' writing process is not hindered by fear.

Thank you! He is not afraid of a challenge and always finds a way to turn lemons into lemonades with his crafty way of saying things. He always puts a smile on my face.

Excellent tutor for my middle schooler

Stephanie was patient, upbeat and extremely helpful with getting my son ready for 8th grade math. She was able to cover many subjects in just a few lessons and made the learning engaging even for a child who isn't a fan of math to begin with. He was able to understand the concepts that Stephanie taught him. I can tell that the information really stuck for him and I'm confident that he's going to have a head start in school next year. Thank you, Stephanie, for being exactly what we needed!!

Excellent and professional tutor

Stephanie is an excellent tutor. She is very friendly and professional. She relates well with my son and he enjoys working with her. Before we started working with her, she met with us and get a chance to know my son. I really appreciate that extra care and attention she gave him. She is very patient and does an excellent job of giving me feedback on their sessions through a thorough write up. I worked with previous tutors before and I really like Stephanie. Highly skilled and excellent customer service. I highly recommend her for your student.

Great tutor

Stephanie is very patient and talented. She has worked with my daughter for a little over a month now and I already have seen a dramatic increase in her reading comprehension. I am very happy with my daughter's progress while working with Stephanie. I recommend her to anyone whose child is struggling with reading!

Thank you, she is much more eager to read, too! She is turning into a reading fanatic with much creativity.

Patient, knowledgeable and creative tutor

Stephanie has been working with our 4th grader for several months. They focus primarily on math. My husband and I are consistently impressed by Stephanie's patience and creativeness in helping our daughter master complex concepts like long division and adding / subtracting fractions. My daughter has ADHD and can easily lose focus or become frustrated. Stephanie quickly noticed her artistic tendencies and started incorporating beads, colored markers, fun iPad apps and movement-oriented 'exercises' for skip counting. She even took videos of her 'teaching' a virtual audience how to solve the math problems. For a little girl who lives to be the center of attention, the move was pure genius. As a result of her efforts we've seen a huge increase in our daughter's number sense and a much better ability to perform mental math and problem solve. I'd highly recommend Stephanie to anyone looking for a tutor for their K-8th grade child.

Better than we could have hoped

Stephanie has accomplished a very difficult task--made my grandson enjoy and look forward to reading with her! She found points of connection with him right away, has been patient with him, and is accomplishing a great deal already. She has also been great about communication. I can't recommend Stephanie highly enough.

My daughter loves her!

My seven year old daughter has been working with Ms. Stephanie for the last few months and we both love her! She is flexible with her availability and is very understanding. My daughter is always excited to go learn with her, and is disappointed if we have to miss a lesson. Stephanie is patient and very kind. She makes every lesson fun and has allowed my daughter to apply what she learns to the real-world. My daughter is very creative and Stephanie prepares lessons that allow her to explore and use her creativity. We were very lucky to find someone so wonderful.

Very Patient and Very Creative

Stephanie is an excellent tutor for my 4 year old. She is very patient and creative. She went from not wanting to write letters at all to now including letters in her drawings. She is coming along very well with her hand writing skills. The magic treasure box works! She picks out her favorite writing instrument and writes and draws nonstop. Thanks !
