I am Asya. I am a sophomore in college. I am a double major in English and Classical Studies with a concentration in Latin. Both of these majors include being certified with a teaching licensure. Because I am studying to become a teacher, tutoring is just a way for me to help others while others help me practice for when I am a teacher. I love the look on a student's face when they get or fully understand the full meaning of something. I am animated and will have you laughing, but we will get all of our work done. I love being able to help!
I began to tutor mostly when I started high school. The more I started to tutor, the more I realized that I really enjoyed it. Tutoring mostly for subjects like Vocal Music, English, and Latin has allowed me to take a very creative approach to tutoring these subjects. Because these subjects have many small mechanical rules, I have become the queen of coming up with methods to help remember them. I learned that the crazier the memorization method is, the more it will be remembered. With that being said, yes, we will be doing some crazy stuff. I promise that the crazy stuff will help you remember any of the small details that you may be missing out on.
I tutored four or five people each semester that I had in Latin (five semesters). In the midst of doing this, I also tutored many lower level English students. I worked with the Boys & Girls Club in my area. In doing this, I was able to tutor students from grades one to eight. As a freshman in college now, I am a tutor for three of my peers for three different subjects: public speaking, Latin, and political science. I have a very successful track record.
I just received a certificate of honorable merit from the American Classical League and the National Junior Classical League for scoring a 'Cum Laude' on the 2015 National Latin Exam.
I honestly enjoy the feeling that I get when I am tutoring someone!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
