I am a photographic storyteller based in Raleigh, NC. Telling peoples life stories with my photography and creating family heirlooms from my work is the most rewarding part of my job. I always think about who will be looking at my photos 25, 30, 50 years from now. Knowing that something I’ve created can grow in value and meaning over time is a great feeling.
I’ve been really fortunate to have traveled around the US and also into Canada to photograph weddings, special events and to create portraits. Along the way I’ve had my work published in many regional publications as well as nationally, in magazines such as Modern Bride and The Knot. A career highlight was being interviewed in Modern Bride.
I have also had my fine art photography exhibited in juried shows and galleries as well as being purchased for corporate and private collections. My most recent exhibit was at the World of Art Showcase which featured artists from all over the world.
I have the best job ever! And I carry the passion and enthusiasm for my work into my teaching. I have taught at the college level, and for continuing education programs as well as workshops to aspiring photographers of all levels. In addition to the technical aspects of cameras and materials, I also place an emphasis on the creativity and thoughtfulness of the photographic process. It isn't merely enough to know what the buttons do, but it's also important to understand why and how you're using them. It's not just about looking but also about seeing.
There are many places to learn the latest photoshop tricks, but not many where you can learn and understand the creative process. When we work together, my goal for you will be to guide you to developing your own vision and style. Your own visual style will be what separates you from every other ordinary photographer.
We'll start with an assessment of your skill level and what you hope to accomplish. Every student I teach receives individualized attention tailored to their specific needs. In addition to instruction time, there will also be assignments with critiques. A large part of the process is the give and take and analysis of student work. We will also examine the work of other photographers as mileposts on the creative journey.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
