Elon University (Education)
Dear Potential Students and Parents/Guardians,
I am a graduate of Elon University, where I am a member of the Teaching Fellows scholarship program and a Special Education and Elementary Education double major. Currently, I hold a position as a teacher of Exceptional Children at a school in the Raleigh-Durham area. I have a strong passion for not only helping my students become competent in the subjects that they study but also inspiring an enjoyment for learning by including their personal interests. I have been working with students who are both mainstreamed and differently abled in various contexts (including Taekwondo studios, camps, and formal classroom settings) since the age of eight. Additionally, I recently spent 4 months teaching students both in a public school and an orphanage in San Jose, Costa Rica, in hopes of developing Spanish language skills as well as gaining a broader understanding of global education.
I am willing to adhere to the needs of my students; I am comfortable tutoring a student if he or she learns best while sitting at a desk or laying down on the floor. As long as the student is comfortable and willing to learn, I am happy to work with him or her. I see my students as individuals whose needs are equally important to one another, and I do not believe that any student is incapable of overcoming any personal challenges. I believe that open communication between both my student and I, as well as the student and his or her guardian about their progress is crucial to success.
I look forward to meeting you and working with you or your student. Please feel free to contact me with any questions that you may have.
**I am not currently taking on anymore students, but feel free to send me a message if you have any questions!

I cannot recommend Sara enough!!! This was my son's second summer spent working with Sara. He has looked forward to every session and truly enjoyed working with Sara each and every time. Sara employs creative means to encourage him to read and even used Beatles songs and Mad Libs!!! Sara is an excellent teacher who is truly enthusiastic about teaching.
Sara is an excellent tutor. My daughter looks forward to seeing her every week. Sara makes learning fun for my 5 year old.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am currently a special education and elementary education double major at Elon University. In this program, we are learning appropriate ways to effectively teaching students of all abilities. I have been working with students who are differently abled since the age of eight in various settings such as a taekwondo studio, a camp, and a formal classroom setting. Additionally, during my senior year of high school, I acted as a student teacher in a special needs kindergarten classroom through the "Youth Teaching Youth" program.
Cooking has always been a large part of my family life. I have aided my mother in teaching cooking to cub scouts and have studied various cooking methods by reading many cookbooks. I cook as well as bake on a regular basis and enjoy involving others in the process and giving them insight in to how I do so.
I am currently in the process of receiving my elementary teaching license. In high school, I acted as a student teacher in a special education kindergarten class. And this past year, I taught science to fifth graders as well as observed fifth graders in a public school near my university.
I am currently a special education and elementary education double major at Elon University. I was a student teacher in a special needs kindergarten class during my senior year of high school through the "youth teaching youth program." I have also worked with special needs individuals in other contexts such as taekwondo studios and camps.
I am an extremely organized student. I often make my own study guides from which I study as well as flashcards. I have familiarized myself with various study methods, from using mnemonic devices to creating rhymes or even songs, and am willing to find the unique method that best suits each particular student.
