I have taught Spanish at many levels--from first grade through adults! This breadth of experience gives me the ability to connect with my students no matter their background. Most recently I taught for thirteen years at Ravenscroft School in Raleigh. I am passionate about the Spanish language and its culture. Although not a native speaker, I fell in love with Spanish as a child admiring my babysitter's Spanish textbook! Not everyone can teach a foreign language. Being a native speaker is by no means a guarantee that you have the gift of teaching or know how to approach someone learning your language. How many of us are capable of teaching English even though it's our own language? The methods for learning language have changed drastically over the years. Through classes, seminars and training I constantly look for the most current trends in language education and implement these with others that are successful in a multi-faceted classroom. My colleagues describe me as articulate, passionate, a good communicator, and congenial. I love working with kids and have raised three of my own with a strong background in Spanish!

Roberta was a very patient and knowledgeable tutor. My daughter was really struggling in Spanish I and Roberta was fantastic in helping her not feel so discouraged and anxious. Her overall grade improved SIGNIFICANTLY and she did very well on her EOG. I highly recommend Roberta and will definitely be requesting her services again for Spanish II in the Fall!!

Roberta is a very good tutor! Has built rapport quickly with my 17 year old son, and the sessions have already improved his Spanish II scores, with only two sessions!
Roberta helped my sophomore son with Spanish for half the semester. He liked her a lot, and helped get him through the class. Roberta was always prompt, and pleasant. I can recommend her without hesitation.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been a teacher for over twenty five years and currently tutor in several subjects. My experience ranges from first grade through twelfth grade so I'm comfortable with students of varying levels. While tutoring I assess the students' strengths and challenges which allows me to tailor a program specific to their needs.
