Hi! I am currently a [non-nerd] Software Engineer; within a small Agile group, I build Windows desktop applications using technologies such as Object-Oriented C++, Boost and STL libraries, SQL, and XML. Before that, I had spent most of my adult life in academia, collecting degrees while doing research in Computer Engineering. I do not claim to be exceptionally smart, just a hard-working individual, which is why I like to help students who are not shining as they should. I believe anybody can excel at whatever subject they decide to succeed at.
If Physics, Mathematics, or Technologies feel like difficult, yet interesting disciplines, I would like to help you. I have more than 15 years of informal tutoring experience which started with one of my best friends who was struggling with basic high-school physics. I successfully moved him from a failing grade to a passing one. While in grad school, I was a Teacher-Assistant responsible for an undergraduate class, spending long hours in the library with students having trouble, or those who just wanted to learn more -get deeper into- the topics we discuss in class. Also, I was an adjunct instructor at UCD where I taught an undergraduate class in the Electrical Engineering department. Outside of the technology world, I am also fluent in Arabic (Lebanese and formal Arabic) and in French.
Finally, about the tutoring philosophy, I would like it to be dynamic, guided mainly by the student needs, demands, and desires. If you really want to understand how gravity works, we can spend a week doing that, but if you only want to learn how to use "F = g * m," we can do that too. Also, a passion of mine is helping young people figure out what they want to do in their life and how to achieve that. Whether you already know that you want to go to college and need to decide where to and how to get the right funding for it, or if you think you would like to skip college, I would like to offer you my coaching skills. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Arabic is my first/native language. I studied formal Arabic (FUSHA) throughout school as well as Lebanese Arabic. Thus, I read, write and speak Arabic perfectly. As a fluent English speaker, I am more than capable of helping English speakers learn Arabic.
I am a software engineer, currently working on desktop-based applications which performs document processing, analysis, optical-character recognition, provides summaries along other intelligent reports. Previously, I worked in the field of high-performance computing, tackling the problem of exascale computing through the use of a very-high number of dynamically created and scheduled threads with a trigger-based computing. I have a bachelor and master's in computer and communication engineering.
I have 10+ years doing Trigonometry. As an engineer, I studied trig at the high school level, the undergraduate level, and again as a graduate student. I have a deep understanding of math concepts and am able to teach a broader understanding, beyond simply plugging numbers into formulas.
