My name is Michelle and I'm very passionate about tutoring. It makes me happy to see a student improve after every tutoring session. I have a BA in Early Childhood Education. I'm so excited to apply the knowledge and skills that I have learned when it comes to teaching. Knowing that each child is unique with his/her own learning style is very important to me.
I've been tutoring for ten years. Back in California, I was part of the team who help students with after school programs that help them improve their reading, writing, and math skills. I encouraged them to do their exercises on their computers and also do their homework.
The second tutoring experience was at the school that I attended at another college, Heald College of San Francisco. Since I already had my Associate's Degree in Liberal Arts from City College of San Francisco, I was able to take advantage of it and helped students prepare for their GED. Also, students made an appointment with me one-on-one, as I tutor them with the subjects mentioned above. I was always inspired when I see them progress on their studies, and would come back and say, "thank you!" whenever they got a high score on their exam or passed the exam.
Lastly, the third experience was when I got a job as a Learning Resource Center Coordinator in Roseville. It was there where I got to use all my skills from administrative sense to my love of tutoring. I not only help them with their homework or prepare for their upcoming exams, but I was able to emphasize to my students that we work as a team. I guided and met them on their level, and they had to choose for themselves to carry on by showing up and being prepared at appointments! When they do that the learning becomes a success! Hello!

I tutor two hours per session, but it can be negotiated depending on the student.
Michelle is very patient with kids. She knows how to to explain difficult math concept to kids. She is very pleasant, punctual, overall was good fit for my kids.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I help students learn reciprocals of numbers, word problems with fractions, average problems, multiplying polynomials, finding the values of "x", linear equations, and anything to do with Algebra 1.
I can help students with multiplying polynomials, solving absolute values, linear equations, logarithms, problem solving, and anything to do with Algebra 2.
I started playing chess when I was 10 years old, and my dad was a Chess Coach. I played and competed throughout high school. I was one of the number one chess players in the Girl's team. I've taught a few of my friends about the beginning, middle, and the end game. I do private chess tutoring presently.
I help them learn fractions, percents, word problems, conversions, and just anything to do with Elementary Math.
I encourage students with reading novels that is appropriate for their age, so as to develop reading and comprehension skills. I read with the students first, then incorporate it to our discussion and learning of vocabulary, grammar, and writing.
I start where students are at. I use different learning styles, such as audio, visual, kinesthetic, or altogether. You'll learn English, and speak English in no time.
I've helped students prepare for their GED while I was a Learning Resource Center Assistant from Heald College of San Francisco for a year. Also, when I continued to do it after I graduated and did it at another branch in Roseville.
I've helped them improve with Math and English.
I can help the student easy ways of factoring, learning to identify monomials, binomials, and polynomials, and prepare the student for Algebra!
I help students improve their proofreading skills by teaching them to catch grammar errors, spelling, and help them improve their writing.
Reading tutoring includes evaluating the student's reading, helping with the pronouncing and enunciating of words, and helping with the homework.
Math is my specialty. I can help you with algebra and geometry problems. I can help you with linear equations and simplifying equations.
I enjoy reading. I've been helping my students with reading by suggesting to read books or novels that they like. I tutor them while we learn vocabulary words, and identify them in the paragraph. Also, I teach them to understand the meaning of the paragraph by looking for the main idea.
Writing is one of my specialties. I've been helping students with Reading and Writing ever since I was finishing my Business Degree from Heald College of San Francisco. I focus on Grammar, Spelling, and Vocabulary. Also, understanding the main idea of the paragraph.
Through reading and writing, I develop my spelling skills. I think the more you read the more you are able to spell correctly. Also, knowing the root words and paying attention to the pattern would help one to be a great speller.
I am qualified to tutor Study Skills because I've always been a good student, have studied Study Skills in my first year in college, and have been a great tutor for five years. I know different learning styles that a student may have. Knowing their learning styles helps me adjust in my teaching. For example, if my student is very creative (Visual), I make sure to address my teaching base on that, so I can be of better help. The seven learning styles that I apply, if possible to my tutoring are the following: Visual, Aural, Verbal, Physical, Logical, Social, and Solitary.
