My name is Gailya. I love learning languages and teaching languages! I speak, read and write Spanish, French, and Hebrew. I teach Hebrew, Spanish and English as a Second Language (ESL). I taught ESL at Wake Technical Community College for many years and loved it! While I was teaching at Wake Tech, I decided to get an official ESL Teaching Certificate from Wake Tech so I took the courses and got the teaching certificate.
I like to teach practical, useable language. In ESL class, I teach practical things like
food, then shopping; human body, going to a doctor, going to a hospital; buildings in your community, giving directions/getting around in the community; parts of an airport, getting around/traveling through an airport;
areas of a school, parent/teacher notes, relations, and meetings.
And I have also taught higher levels - idioms, how to write paragraphs and essays, etc.
In Spanish, I can teach similar practical things as above to help you get around in a Spanish speaking country, or so you can use Spanish at work or in your business in NC. Same with French (including using the metro) and Hebrew. I think it helps to learn about the culture associated with the language too - and you can learn about the culture in the new language.
I also enjoy teaching Math, especially Algebra, although I studied through Calculus and Differential Equations up to Combinatorics (deciding how many of something can exist). I tutored someone through a High School equivalency course, starting with the basics, and love doing that too!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have tutored English and loved it!
I like all aspects of English - reading, speaking, writing and grammar. As a student of languages myself, I find them all useful in learning to communicate, and helping someone to communicate better.
I have many different materials for teaching English. I have experience teaching children, teenagers and adults.
I have taught higher levels, including idioms and how to write paragraphs and essays. There are many useful tips which can be useful from now forward!

I have also tutored ESL to teens and adults.
Everyone has different things they want to learn in English. It all interests me!
I learned Hebrew in Hebrew School while I was growing up. I studied conversational Hebrew as an adult for many years because I used to work with people at an Israeli company (our licensee) and I wanted to be able to communicate better in Hebrew.
Since then I have taught Hebrew to children at Hebrew school (my permanent classes have been mostly 6th grade), and I have also taught adults. I am currently teaching Hebrew to 4th graders and to adults.
I have experience teaching Spanish and in teaching adults, teenagers and children.
I learned Spanish in high school and continued studying it in college. I have used it with co-workers, friends and students after I graduated.
I find I use Spanish to communicate the most of the languages I know. I love knowing it and sharing how the language works.
I would love to help you learn Spanish.
