I have taught composition and literature classes at the university level since 1999. Additionally, I've worked as a writing tutor at a community college writing center and in a program designed to prepare high school students for university level writing. As an undergraduate, I studied English and French literature. At the graduate level, I've received a master's in English, and have completed my exams and coursework for a PhD in Literature, with an emphasis on American literature and its French cultural influences.

We met Julie for the first time at the end of my daughter's junior year in HS. She had been struggling with English and after being tested, we learned she tested at a 8th grade level for reading comprehension, but tested at the college level for math. In six months working with Julie, Her SAT writing and reading scores improved 80 points and she began to receive A & B in her senior Honors English class. Thank you Julie!
My daughter has only completed a couple of lessons with Julie but, so far, everything has been going well. Julie is flexible with her schedule and is always early for our sessions (we meet in a public place). I am looking forward to watching my daughter's progress improve as we continue to work with Julie.
We found Julie C. to be prompt, professional and accommodating. She was able to help us make excellent progress in a very short amount of time. The results exceeded our expectations. The study material she provided was also very helpful. I would highly recommend Julie C.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I've tutored and taught ESL/ESOL students in reading and writing at the community college/college/university level since 2000. This work has ranged from homework assistance to developing assignments to improve a student's mastery of written English. Improving reading comprehension is a crucial component of this.
I have taught Study Skills as part of a program designed to help prepare educationally underprivileged high school students for university level work since 1999. While most of my work with Study Skill has focused on high school, university, and adult students, these same skills can help students of all levels including elementary and secondary students.
