Hello! I am excited about the opportunity to tutor you! If you have been frustrated with math or writing in particular, I am here to offer you a fresh perspective and help you find your "ah-ha" moment in the learning process. Hello! I am excited about the opportunity to tutor you! If you have been frustrated with math or writing in particular, I am here to offer you a fresh perspective and help you find your "ah-ha" moment in the learning process. I believe, especially with math, that if a foundational truth or principle is missed in the course of learning the subject, it hinders the learning of newer concepts because math is a building blocks subject. But once the missing principle is discovered, I have found that students who have been previously not understanding or doing well, now can excel often improving as much as two letter grades. I can also help your child and you with understanding middle and high school math, Common Core Curriculum, K-6 as well as EOG test preparation for 3rd -6th grades.

A bit about me-- I have an undergraduate degree from Virginia Commonwealth University in Rehabilitative Counseling Services and a minor in Psychology. I received my Masters in Public Administration from North Carolina State University with a minor in Adult Education, Training and Development. So why am I tutoring in Math? I have always loved math--it was my "hobby" course, if you will, or the class I took for fun even though it was not required :) I took the advanced placement test for Calculus and placed out of math when I started undergraduate school.

I enjoy seeing young people excel and feel confident in what they are doing. My goal in tutoring is to help you achieve your "ah-ha" moment in understanding.

Elementary (K-6th)

Kindergarten - 6th: I have had the privilege of participating in a program to save and propel at risk youth into school success. It was an aggressive program that met three nights a week and Saturday mornings. Using the Wake Co. School system connections, I make lesson plans for whichever grade I was assigned that year. Because of my flexibility and the Director's belief in my talent, I taught grade 1st - 5th grade, Reading, Math and Writing concentration, Kindergarten Special Needs and during our Therapeutic Summer Camp, I facilitated a creative writing camp. It was one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences, getting these kids to express their emotions, dreams and just being a kid in written form! I am passionate about every student being able to learn. The learning comes in the discovery of learning style.
