As a long-time English/Reading instructor, writer, editor, proofreader, and Communications specialist, I have the skills and the dedication to help with any writing, grammar, or reading-comprehension problem. In my work as a college-level English instructor, I've noticed that too many students fail to succeed in their English and Reading courses because they don't understand the simple basics of English grammar.

As a long-time English/Reading instructor, writer, editor, proofreader, and Communications specialist, I have the skills and the dedication to help with any writing, grammar, or reading-comprehension problem. In my work as a college-level English instructor, I've noticed that too many students fail to succeed in their English and Reading courses because they don't understand the simple basics of English grammar.

I also see every day that students lack the level of vocabulary needed to communicate intelligently and to progress in their high school and college classes. I'm a patient and devoted tutor, but I always expect my students to exceed their own expectations for themselves, and success in English begins with vocabulary.

English should be easy because, for most of us, it's our native language. However, most of us have learned it badly, and our reliance on texting and other electronic shortcuts has contributed to our language deficiencies.

Some things have to be learned and understood from the inside out. That's how I tutor students in English, Reading, and general Communications. One of my former Developmental English students at Fayetteville Technical Community College is now on a full scholarship to UNC-Chapel Hill, and his beautiful application essay surely contributed to his selection!

Great Learning Experience

Mary is an excellent tutor. I’m a graduating senior who needed help in proofreading my college essays and on improving my college entrance exams. She helped me tremendously in increasing my SAT and ACT scores. I don’t think I would have come as far as I have without her teaching. Mary created an atmosphere that allowed me to feel comfortable and relaxed, and, at the same time, make me want to learn. Mary has exceeded my expectations as a tutor. Not only does she help me, she’s also willing to listen to my thoughts and feelings. She’s funny, thoughtful, intelligent, and passionate in teaching. I had a great time learning from Mary. I learned a great deal from her. Thanks to her hard work, I was able to get accepted into my dream school, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
