I specialize in teaching chemistry to both adults and teens that have difficulty understanding science. I have a PhD in Organic Chemistry from North Carolina State University and completed a 2-year post-doctoral Fellowship in Organic Chemistry at Virginia Tech. I try to make learning fun and to approach chemistry in a way that is both understandable to the student and enjoyable. I am currently employed full-time as an industrial scientist, however I have been an evening chemistry instructor at several institutions over the past 18 years. My current position is in the chemistry department at UNCG and I have taught there for the past 8 years. I have also taught at Bennett College and at GTCC in Greensboro. My area of specialization is organic chemistry. I teach for the joy of teaching. In addition to teaching chemistry, I also teach algebra.

Nina is very knowledgeable. She help me to understand the missing parts. She explains in a way that is relatable and clear. I highly recommend her and I will continue my service with her.
I would advise anyone to select Nina H. as a tutor. My daughter used her services recently, then called all her family members in her home town in Colorado and North Carolina to "Rave" about how wonderful a tutor Nina is. The course Nina had to tutor my daughter in was extremely hard, but Nina made it so easy for her to understand. My daughter has learned so much from her in such a short time. Our only regret is that my daughter was unaware of Nina to make use of her services from the beginning of the college school year.
Because of class cancellations, my child joined an AP chemistry class at about a month into the school year. My child was overwhelmed. Nina was able to CLEARLY explain and mathematically coach understanding of the missed material. Nina clarifies concepts and make the math seem less intimidating. AP Chemistry in not easy for a high schooler who wants to attend a top-notch university. Having a scientist of Nina's caliber work with my child is salvaging my child's future college options.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taught many different chemistry courses at the university level at UNCG, NC State, Bennett College and GTCC. I have more than 25 years of teaching experience. I have also tutored individuals for the past 20 years
