My love for teaching comes from the heart. I am very passionate about making sure that every child succeeds with their academics. As someone who has worked her way up from working with babies to sixth grade students, I fully understand what it takes to succeed and meet every self goal. I have received many certificates and honors from the Golden Key Honor to many Teaching Assistant awards in reading. After graduation, I began working in a Fastword Reading Lab and helping struggling readers achieve their goals of reading on or above grade level.
Children learn and comprehend materials in different ways. No one is the same and with the schooling and classroom experience that I have; I feel I can help each student realize their own potential and see their reading levels, test scores, and confidence greatly improve. One of my goals for each student is to keep them challenged and help motivate them to want to succeed. I integrate fun-filled lessons with activities to encourage students. I assign homework after each lesson and keep parents fully involved by sending home progress reports of success and a nightly reading log for parent signature.
Because of traveling to meet students, I require at least a two hour cancellation notice.
To ensure students have a quiet place to accomplish their goals, I will meet at your local library for your tutoring sessions. If the need arises for in school times (and the school allows it) I can arrange afternoon tutoring sessions in your child's school library. I am pretty flexible and will try to make it as convenient as possible for every child.
I look forward to meeting each student and helping you achieve your academic goals!
I have a Reading Certificate (K-12) and am a Fastword Reading Lab Teacher.

Mnemonics are memory devices that help learners recall larger pieces of information, especially in the form of lists like characteristics, steps, stages, parts, phases, etc. I have received training with this type of learning.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I first attended Craven Community College and received an AS in Early Childhood Education. I worked in preschools and daycare (4 year old classrooms.) I decided to return to school in 2005 and finish my education. I entered into the Wachovia Partnership East program through East Carolina University and received a BS in Elementary Education (K-6) with a concentration in Reading (K-12). I graduated in Dec. 2009. My last year in the school system, I was the teacher in the Fast Forword Lab which is a reading program that helps students who struggle meeting grade level in reading.
I have attended many training sessions on Mnemonics and other teaching aids for teaching phonics. The Fast Forword Program specialized in teaching students the foundations to learning to read. I had the privilege of teaching the program to the students and watching them grow into confident young readers and meeting grade level.
I have been both a Test Administrator and a Proctor for the EOG's. We developed test preparations for our students and begin reviewing mock tests weeks before the actual EOG's. We gave parents updates on struggling students and extra help to those who needed it.
