I earned my Associate's in Applied Science degree in Business Administration from Sullivan County Community College in Loch Sheldrake, NY in 1986. From there I transferred to the State University of New York College at Oswego where I studied Vocational-Technical Education and completed my undergraduate studies by earning my Bachelor's of Science degree in 1988. In 1990, I returned to Oswego State to begin my graduate work, also in Vocational-Technical Education. I completed graduate school and earned my Master's of Science degree in 1992.

My first paid teaching employment came in 1993 when I was hired as a Business Instructor at the Ridley-Lowell Business and Technical Institute in Binghamton, NY. During my tenure I taught the following courses: Accounting I and II, Payroll Accounting, Cost Accounting I and II, Business Math, Federal Income Tax, and Business Organization and Management. In 1995 I also taught Small Business Management classes at Onondaga Community College.

In 1996 I relocated to North Carolina and was hired as an Instructor at the New Horizons Computer Learning Center in Greensboro. I taught several software training classes in the Microsoft Office suite including advanced levels of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook. I also taught Lotus SmartSuite, WordPerfect, Quattro Pro, Harvard Graphics, Novell GroupWise, and Lotus Notes. In 1998 I accepted a position as a Software Training Consultant at Productivity Point International in Raleigh where I expanded my software repertoire to include Microsoft Project, Crystal Reports, Microsoft Visio, plus Visual Basic Programming for both Microsoft Excel and Access.
