My name is Jane. I have been involved in education since 1982 teaching students birth through 12 years old. I have experience teaching all subjects in pre-school and elementary education. I taught math and science for grades k-8 in a school for gifted and talented students. I have also worked with medically fragile birth through age 5. I have taught students whose learning differences are a challenge both in and out of the classroom. For the past seven years I taught reading, writing, science, and social studies to middle school students in a special education school designed specifically for students with learning differences in Washington DC.
It is important for me to invest time in getting to know the student in order to identify their preferred learning style and interests. I plan my activities based on the students interests in order to increase their level of engagement. It is equally important for me to consider the whole child including partnering with the classroom teacher if necessary. I will address academics, as well as, social/emotional development increasing the opportunities for the student to be successful. My objective is to help all learners achieve their potential by building confidence and providing them the tools and strategies in order to achieve their goals. Hi,

Jane has been working on math with my daughter for several months now. Each week my daughter is very excited to meet with Jane and learn about math. Jane always has fun and exciting activities and never has a boring session. She keeps my daughter focused and on top of her math skills. Since working with Jane, my daughters math grade has gone from a 78 to an 89. I am very thrilled and honored to have her as our tutor!
Jane is awesome. My daughter's teacher has reported that she has already shown great progress in just three tutoring sessions. Jane makes her learning very exciting and very interesting, and there is never a dull moment. My daughter asks me very day when can she go back to study. I am very, very, very satisfied with Jane, she is worth every penny.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
