I have a B.A. degree in Visual Arts with a concentration in painting and a B.S. in Art Education. I have 8 years of combined teaching experience in public, private, and virtual charter school settings. Children and adults of all ages have participated in my classes. I have developed programs for summer camps for children beginning at two years of age as well as taught a portfolio development class for teens.
Helping high school students prepare a portfolio to apply to colleges and universities for acceptance into art programs is where my passion lies. I know what colleges and universities are looking for, and can ensure that students put forth a well-rounded visual representation of themselves. I also have knowledge of the ASVAB and can help students to prepare to take the test or to improve their initial scores.
Proofreading papers, especially within the art genre, is something that I also highly enjoy. The research writing process and organization of a paper are two aspects of writing that I am able to tutor. Writing doesn't have to be so scary!
I would consider myself an expert in painting and drawing, art theory, composition, and art history. Contemporary art museums intrigue me, and I visit them as often as I can. Just recently I returned from Australia, and traveling is a large part of my life. Currently, I am enrolled in a program to earn an M.A. in Museum Studies and am set to graduate this semester. Also, I can help you or your child to learn art history in a hands-on way by visiting a local art museum.
I can walk a student through a drawing or painting to solidify technique but I can also help you or your child find an inner voice!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I spent the first three years of my college education studying art history before I switched my major to studio art. I enjoy art history very much, especially studying Modern art and art in Non-Western societies. I spent a semester in Belize studying Mayan archaeology as well. I can tutor on any era in art history and can assist in writing papers about any subject. I also do well at assisting in memorization.
I have taken a number of courses in drawing at the college level and have experience figure drawing, drawing from observation, and experimental drawing. I use a variety of media to include pencil, charcoal, pastel, and colored pencil. When teaching I often begin with observational drawing and progress to levels that are guided by the artists' interests. I include study of contemporary artists and how they draw as inspiration.
I have earned a degree with a concentration in painting. I prefer acrylics but can also work in watercolor and oils if desired. Like drawing, I generally begin the lessons with tradition painting methods and progress to artist interest. I also have an interest in experimenting with alternative methods of painting especially using acrylics.
I have a BA in Visual Art and have taken college level digital photography classes. I am currently working as an Outreach Intern for a local arts organization to help implement an after-school photography program in the public schools of Guilford County. While performing this job I have helped students learn the basics of digital photography. I know the technical aspects and aesthetics of digital photography and can guide my students through a hands-on experience with both.
In addition to being knowledgeable about art, I am also a very good writer. I often proofread the work of my friends and colleagues and correct grammar or structural mistakes. I can go over your paper with you and help you to make the necessary corrections. I can help you give your paper some flair!
I can help with all aspects of writing and am particularly familiar with APA style research papers. I know how to write a paper without plagiarizing and can teach you my methods of summarizing and constructing a paper using your own voice. I prefer a method of notecards as opposed to strictly using a computer. Writing can be fun and stress-free if you enter into it with a plan.
