East Carolina University (Master's)
Thank you for your interest in my profile. My name is Jaime C. and my first job is being a mother to three wonderful children . Originally from Long Island, I graduated from East Carolina University with a Bachelors in Communication Sciences and Disorders, and completed my Masters Degree in Speech-Language Pathology in May 2001. As a speech pathologist, I have worked in a variety of settings including schools, hospital, and private practice. I have always loved the area of articulation remediation and found my niche in Accent Reduction Training, better named "Accent Acquisition". I have specialized continuing education in the area of Accent Reduction, including the Compton P-ESL program and have spent the last eight months studying the speech patterns of the English language very closely.
As a student learning Spanish, I understand first hand how difficult it is to learn the pronunciation of any second language. The pronunciation of the English language is particularly difficult because every letter of the English alphabet can be pronounced at least two different ways, and spelling does not always give us a clue! When teaching accent reduction to my students, I use a combination of my knowledge as a speech pathologist, my training with the Compton program, and my studies on the speech patterns of English, to give a very comprehensive course. I teach my students how to pronounce the sounds that are difficult for them using articulation techniques that I have compiled over the years. With this course you will learn all of the consonant and vowel sounds of the English language, as well as rhythm, intonation, and speech patterns. I start with a detailed speech analysis so that I can customize all of my lesson plans to each individual. I teach this course in 16 weeks or less, meeting one hour weekly, and follow up each session with home, self study guides, in order to maximize carry over to conversational everyday speech. I treat all of my students like family, and hope that my passion for teaching this subject shows during every session. Thank you for your interest in my profile.
