I have a PhD in Physics and Atmospheric Science from Drexel University and nearly twenty years of experience teaching mathematics and physics. Most of my students were either working toward their GED, or were freshman and sophomore Pharmacy, Pre-med or Allied Health Sciences majors.
Over my many years as a college professor I have taught the full range of general mathematics courses from prealgebra to integral calculus, with some business math and statistics courses thrown in during the latter part of my teaching career. While I was teaching math courses I was also teaching algebra and calculus based physics courses as well as their accompanying labs.
I also have an avid interest in astronomy and have taught astronomy courses about three times during my teaching career. I have also been told by my students several times that I should be teaching computer courses because of my thorough knowledge of computer usage and Microsoft office applications.
Over the last several years that I was teaching, I realized that I enjoyed tutoring the most because of the face-to-face experience helping students like you who really want some help. So I hope to hear from you so that I can continue to enjoy tutoring while assisting you in your quest for a successful and rewarding education.

Kurt L. is a very well credentialed tutor!
Kurt L. tutored my son his first year of college in Calculus 1, a very tough subject. He was not doing well in the course, and after a couple months with Kurt my son was understanding the subject so much better.
Kurt L. is a very reliable, knowledgeable, patient and detailed tutor. My son could not have been happier with Kurt’s expertise in the subject. He was able to explain the material to my son in a way that he was more easily able to understand.
Kurt is very professional but at the same time he has a very easy way with younger people struggling to get through math. I would highly recommend Kurt L. as a tutor for mathematics for people who are struggling to succeed in Math.
I can not find enough adjectives to describe how good Kurt is at tutoring. He is very knowledgeable at the subjects he teaches. I plan on using his services as often as I possibly can. Money well spent. Helped my grade level improve by at least a whole letter grade if not more.
Kurt is a great guy and great tutor. He helped increased my Math IQ greatly on the Praxis I Math exam. He helped me increase my Math knowledge/skills by showing me how to solve problems I had trouble with in a number of different ways which was really beneficial. He took the time to go over a problem again if I didn't get an explanation the first time, and is very patient and supportive. I would highly recommend Kurt to anyone who needs help with the Praxis I Math or any area of Math for that matter.
My son has Kurt for his college level math course and loves him. He took the extra time if my son needed it and, my son thinks he did great on his final. My son likes Kurt so much he's keeping in touch with him so next year when he has to take calculus he'll be his tutor.
I could not have passed statistics without help from Kurt. He was easily accessible and always available for extra sessions if needed.
Dr. L is a fantastic tutor!! He is very knowledgeable, kind, patient, professional, and punctual. I am a college student and Dr. L is helping me with mathematics and physics this semester. I am also a math and science phobe! However, Dr. L’s approach and demeanor makes challenging courses much less intimidating. In fact, he makes them interesting and enjoyable. If you are looking for a tutor to thoroughly and patiently explain complex math and science concepts look no further, Dr. L is the perfect tutor for you!
Kurt L is an affable individual. I'm not in the tutoring sessions with my son, but I do see the detailed notes and calculations that he provides during each session. My son has progressed from being from receiving 'D's and 'C's in physics and math to receiving 'B's and 'A's. And ultimately that is how one judges effectiveness.
This tutor is very professional and understands greatly the client's difficulties and abilities. Kurt L. wants his client to actually understand the material in which he or she is being tutored. That should go without saying that Kurt wishes his clients go to him with any questions and/or comments about his teaching so that he could better himself for that client's needs. If there was any con to Mr. L's teaching, it would merely be that he has a hard time with hearing. This hearing problem only surfaces when trying to communicate with Kurt over the phone. Other then that slight issue, Kurt is an outstanding tutor.
In our first meeting I found out that Kurt was very easy to talk to; this is extremely important because it allows you to build that relationship of mutual respect. Kurt showed me ways of doing problems that I had not seen before. I found that his ways of doing problems made the professor's way seem much more clear. The two ways together just seemed to make the problem come to light. Before I knew it we were more than two hours into the Calculus session and it felt like I could have gone another two hours - try that with you current Professor. Kurt puts in a lot of his personal time into the tutoring, even before we meet. For example, I send Kurt specific problems that I need help with via email, he then shows up to our session with all the work done; this cuts down on wasted time, we can then review his work and focus on more issues. Kurt is not the first tutor I have ever used, but he is one of my favorites.
Kurt has been a great tutor for my son. SAT prep was his instruction and Kurt did an amazing job.
I highly recommend his patient and in depth instruction. He is an overall good person very knowledgeable on many levels.
Dr. L has a very perceptive talent of tuning into just what a student needs. He is very patient and makes one feel relaxed. This makes learning a new subject less threatening and that is most important, at least to me.
I contacted Kurt for a Calculus course I am taking, where I managed to fall behind in my studies. We are still working together, but since we have begun I actually understand the material more that I ever have! My sessions with Kurt are very productive and he does a great job breaking everything down into steps that are easy to understand. Kurt ties the Chapter Themes together to help you understand the big picture, and move from concept to concept. Kurt would be a valuable asset/additional resource to anyone who is struggling with Mathematics, Physics, and the other courses he teaches. He is truly an honest educator that takes a real interest in his students and their success.
Kurt is very polite outside the tutoring sessions, and is very prompt to reply to phone calls and/or emails. I would recommend Kurt to anyone who needs tutoring in the subjects he teaches.
Kurt L started tutoring Math & Physics to our son in August 2010. In the time that Kurt has been working with our son we have not only seen improved study habits in him but also that he is enjoying doing it. Our son is now bringing home grades that are on average “A’s”. My wife and I believe that our son’s continued improvement is due to that fact that Kurt makes learning enjoyable for him. Kurt has the patience to explain complex things to the youth in ways that relate to their world. Kurt also puts emphasis on the importance of studying and doing home work. We are very grateful for his steadfast love of his job and working with students one on one. We have no hesitation recommending Kurt to other parents.
I had used Kurt's services twice in preparing for exams in my calculus/differential equations course, and his services did not disappoint! Very kind and thorough, he makes sure you understand every part of a problem as well as the steps to solving it. A great tutor, highly recommended.
Dr. L. is extremely intelligent. I am glad he is willing to share his knowledge through tutoring. Dr. L. does like to bring a bit of socializing into the session, but does not charge for that time. Dr. L. is very open to feedback and interested in knowing he is giving the student what he/she needs. I am pleased with my choice for a tutor. In only 1 session with Dr. L. my daughter gained understanding in every question she did not previously understand. After the second session,
her ability to answer questions on a quiz at school increased greatly. We are happy with Dr. L.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I overlooked this category when I first selected the courses I was interested in tutoring. I feel that I am very good at this and my former students suggested several times that I should be teaching this material (See my freestyle introduction if you wish). Secondly, I have recently passed all three of the MS applications certifications in quick succession. Finally, there is a potential client in Havertown who has had trouble finding a tutor. I think I understand his situation and frustration, and would like to try to help him.
I tutor Conceptual and Introductory Physics.
