I have always wanted to make a positive difference in people's lives and teaching and tutoring have allowed me to do just that. I love working with students of all ages and get great satisfaction in watching the learning process unfold. FLUTE students have enjoyed their experience working together with me and most have held top chairs in their band or orchestra.
Many have auditioned and been accepted into the Northern Virginia Youth Symphony and the Greensboro Symphony Youth Orchestra. I am also the founder and director of some of the first performing flute choirs in Northern Virginia and North Carolina. I have taught for over twenty-five years.
My love of reading and writing is something I wish to instill in students. As a Children's Librarian for over five years I learned authors that typically grabbed the curiosity of boys and girls. I also offer proofreading and English tutoring. I assign just enough homework to be sure that my students have understood and mastered the lesson. I keep teaching interesting and fun and I understand that each individual learns in different ways. I feel it is my job to figure out what the best teaching style is for each student.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
