About David

Growing up, my father was a commercial artist and photographer. His work influenced me, and later in life I began to shoot with DSLRs, as well as old film cameras. Today, I’m primarily a landscape and portrait photographer with a love for abandoned buildings and nature. In addition to running my own photography business, I also teach both one-on-one lessons and group workshops (including unique classes like light painting).

I compete in juried photography shows and have won multiple awards in print competitions. Additionally, I’ve also served as the president of a local photography club, and currently serve as a program chair for a local camera club. I find it important to stay active in my local photography community and collaborate with fellow creatives.

My approach to teaching is a an interactive one, where students have the chance to not only watch what is demonstrated, but also use equipment in a hands on learning environment. I primarily am a Sony camera and gear user; however, I also shoot with Nikon and for lighting gear, I use Alienbee studio strobes and Nisan speedlights. However, I have taught students on many different brands of cameras (even vintage ones), as well as lighting gear and lenses. I start with basic concepts and build upon this knowledge with my students, so that they have a solid understanding of camera and lighting techniques as they move forward in lessons.

I thoroughly enjoy teaching others and watching my students expand their knowledge of photography while creating art. If you have any questions regarding lessons, please feel free to contact me. I look forward to having the opportunity to work with you and help you learn more about the wonderful world of photography.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or if you would like to schedule a lesson.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Photography

I have been a photographer for over 7 years. I have experience in shooting a wide variaty of subjects including landscapes, portraiture, light painting and urbex photography. I also teach workshops on beginner photography and light painting photography. I have been asked to speak at multiple camera clubs in the state.
