University of North Carolina Wilmington (Spanish)
East Carolina University (Master's)
I grew up in the area and attended Cary High School before studying Business and Spanish at UNC-Wilmington and going on for my Master's at East Carolina University. I tutored Spanish and ESL students during my time at UNC-Wilmington and have taught English to high school students in Spain and Nicaragua since then. I have enjoyed all of my experiences as an educator and have especially excelled in a one-on-one setting. I enjoy meeting young students and helping them out along the way.
I am a big sports fan, love being outside (especially at the beach!), and enjoy cooking. I also enjoy traveling and have been to over 15 countries. My personality is pretty easy-going and I am always looking forward to meeting new people.
I tutored 2 native Spanish-speakers for 3 months each during my time as an undergraduate student at UNC-Wilmington. After college, I spent 8 months teaching ESL at a high school in Spain while tutoring additional ESL students in my free time. I have recently spent 4 months in Nicaragua where I taught ESL to high school students 4 hours per week.
I have a B.A. in Spanish from UNC-Wilmington and have lived in Ecuador, Panama, Spain, and Nicaragua for a total of 18 months. I spoke Spanish everyday with native speakers during these times and my Spanish evolved rapidly.
I really enjoy American History and did very well in my high school and college history classes. I still read history books during my free time.
I played basketball during my youth and played 3 years of high school basketball at Cary High. I still play during my free time and am a huge fan of both college and professional basketball. I have a good understanding of the game, especially the fundamentals.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
