About Dr. Elizabeth

I am a local Veterinarian who has always enjoyed teaching, mentoring and tutoring. During undergraduate, graduate and veterinary school, I had the opportunity to teach classes, labs and tutor individual students in the subjects of Biology, Microbiology, Genetics, Physiology, Anatomy and Botany. I have always enjoyed the one-on-one or small group dynamic of teaching and feel that students are much more apt to learn a subject when it is tailored to their specific learning style.

During undergraduate school, I majored in Biology, Chemistry and French and was awarded the Ford Scholarship, which allowed me to teach in the subjects of Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics. I started doing Genetic research while in undergraduate school and was awarded NSF funding to continue my research beyond graduation.

I was then accepted into the Genetics and Genomics PhD program at Duke University before deciding to pursue my lifelong dream of being a Veterinarian. I then attended North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine and have been working as a local veterinarian.

I have missed teaching and connecting with students, so I decided I would seek out local tutoring opportunities. I know first hand how one-on-one education can transform a students future and I am excited to meet new students, young and older.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Genetics

Before going to Veterinary School I was a PhD student at Duke University in Genetics and Genomics. I ended my program early to pursue my career in Veterinary Medicine as this is where I felt I was truly called. In undergrad I was teaching assistant for a Genetics class and did research in a Genetics lab obtaining an NSF grant to complete this research.

Zoology

I believe I am qualified to tutor Zoology as I have been a Veterinarian for 4 years and while in Veterinary School I worked at the zoo study animal behavior and nutrition.
