My name is Lydia and I am a recent UNC Wilmington graduate. I am in love with Spanish and so nothing makes me happier than to see someone else who is learning this beautiful language! As a tutor, I will do everything possible to help you improve your skills and build confidence because I know what it's like to struggle with Spanish.
Here's a little bit about me.
I have been studying Spanish since high school and graduated from UNCW with a Bachelor's Degree in Spanish Language. In addition to classroom study, I have also spent a lot of time abroad in Chile and Spain where I worked hard to learn conversational Spanish. My most recent experience was a year abroad in Spain where I both taught and tutored English to high school students in a small town.
My stellar combination of classroom study and tutoring experiences will provide you with a quality and rounded experience that, combined with your willingness to learn, will spark a new love for this language. Buenos dias!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I was an Imaging Technician in the Photography Department at UNC Wilmington for 2 years. In this job I worked with Adobe Photoshop to edit photos that were posted on the college website, Facebook, and faculty/staff portraits. In addition to this I have been working with Photoshop privately for 7+ years.
I have been studying Arabic at UNCW for three years, including a semester of study abroad in Amman, Jordan. By May 2013, I will have a minor in Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies. I currently assist the Arabic professor in class and help his students improve critical speaking skills and cultural competency of the Middle East.
I have been playing guitar for about 10 years. I taught myself basic chords and from there I learned how to read tabs. I am able to teach chords, finger placement, how to read tabs, and other basic information about guitars.
I worked with the UNCW photography department for two years. The first year I was mainly in the office editing the photographs using Adobe Photoshop. The second year I worked both in the field and in the office. While on the job I worked with upper-end Nikon DSLRs, but I can also work with Cannon and other brands.
I have been dancing salsa for about 5 years now. I frequently go to classes to learn more difficult moves and patterns. I can teach beginner salsa very easily and frequently do so for my friends.
I have been studying Spanish for eight years, this includes four years in High School and four years in college at UNC Wilmington. By May 2013, I will have a Bachelor's Degree in Spanish Language and a Bachelor's Degree in International Studies with a concentration in Latin America and the Caribbean. I studied abroad in Viña del Mar, Chile where I greatly improved my Spanish speaking skills.
