I have been a teacher for 10 years. I am an intermediate teacher (grades 4-6). I have worked with many types of learners and understand the developmental process needed to enhance learning.
I love being in a classroom but nothing is more rewarding than giving a student my individual time to help them grow. Tutoring allows me to help a student one on one and really get to know their level of thinking. Once I have an understanding of how the student learns, I adjust my teaching to fill in the missing pieces they are struggling with in a subject area. Not only do I teach the needed skill to succeed, I also focus on the confidence that finding a weakness is really a strength because then the student can ask for help. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
