Wingate University (Ed. B.A. Math Scienc)
My name is JD. I have over 13 years experience teaching math and science in 6th, 7th, and 8th grades. I am familiar with the Common Core Standards for North Catolina. I have been the committee chair for the math department, science department, all three grade levels, and many more. I am fluent with Microsoft Office. I earned a B.A. in Math Education and Science Education from UNC Pembroke. I also earned a B.S. in Biology from Wingate University with minors in Environmental Biology and Chemistry.
I have a very adapting teaching style. I believe that each student learns a different way and that the best approach is what suits the student. I do not believe in lectures, but in a hands on approach that guides the student through the learning process. One of my favorite styles is letting the student study independently for a few minutes and then have them "teach me" the lesson. While they do this I offer them soft assistance but let them solve and teach the problem as much as possible. I also believe that most students attention span is no more than twelve minutes. After that time has been reached I like to change the the approach and do some type of movement activity. I have found that certain styles of music enhance this part of the lesson. Hello,

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
