Allow about 75-90 minutes for the first session. This allows time for a short assessment to determine your learning style. I come to each session well prepared. I will take all the time necessary to answer your questions and break difficult concepts down. Future sessions will take an hour or more.
Some subjects will require TWO HOURS because of the necessity to pay attention to detail. You will be notified of this before we get started. I also believe in confirming our appointment ahead of time with a review of our goals for that session.
Most of my clients take several weeks in tutoring. In the beginning, I develop a tutoring plan and schedule and together we stay on point. If you need an intensive session to prep for a test, plan on THREE HOURS or more.
I can also tutor groups (up to 5 students) for the same subject. Group rates available.

Matt was a pleasure to work with. He went out of his way to meet with us and was genuinely concerned about helping his students achieve their academic potential.
In genetics, Matt is curious and enthusiastic. He did his research on the topic before each session, and we were able to get through entire chapters or practice tests. He has a positive attitude and helped me get the grade I was hoping for in the class. Definitely recommend!
I visited Mark to get help with some biology. I don't speak English very well and Mark took the time to explain everything for me to understand. I highly recommend him.
I was very pleased with my tutoring experience with Mr. P. He was very knowledgeable on the subject matter and used a lot of analogies to help me grasp the difficult concepts involved in organic chemistry. Overall a great tutor.
Thank You so much, Matt. All of your lessons have been extremely helpful. I will let you know how I do on the test!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Prepping for a test is very important. Being familiar with what the test is about is also important. I am a patient tutor, use examples and go step by step so each student gains confidence in understanding and solving the problems. This helps with success on the test.
I have worked with ADD/ADHD children in the past. I have several hundred hours of experience using Play Therapy which is a tremendous tool to help work with children as we tutor in subjects like math.
Using a tactile approach along with a white board and a textbook/study manual helps slow things down so the tutoring is done at the speed of the child.
Redundancy made fun helps the child retain what is learned and reveals strengths (successes) and weak areas (future successes).
Another area to help the parents with the child is filial therapy which I have used extensively.
I have always found math easy to understand and like solving problems. It's been fun to tutor for almost 20 years and make math more understandable.
I have worked with children with Asperger's and high functioning autism in the past. Since the area is so specialized and requires either a certified clinician or someone with a great deal of experience and awareness, I believe I do have that experience. I have a Master's Degree in Counseling and I have over two hundred hours of experience using Play Therapy for children with AS & HFA.
My experience is with children 8 years and older and have utilized art therapy and cognitive behavior therapy.
I believe using a tactile approach along with a white board and a basic textbook/study manual helps slow things down so the tutoring is done at the speed of the student.
I have an MA in Christian Ministries from Asbury Seminary, have taken 36 Grad Hours in Various Bible studies as well as biblical Greek and Hebrew.
I have also taught Comparative Religion classes, Disciple classes levels one to four, Revelation and have written a Bible Study/Confirmation program for teens including eschatology and end times prophecy.
I have a BS in Chemistry. In the past, I worked for two large chemical companies and was a Technical Rep in organic and industrial chemicals. I am quite proficient in the subject and can really help students navigate their way through it. I can help with applying questions to real life examples which helps in understanding all major concepts.
I have a BS in Chemistry. I home schooled my children in biology and have tutored at the AP level. I am quite proficient in the subject and can really help students navigate their way through it. I have a BS in Inorganic Chemistry and have tutored for almost 20 years. I've been employed in the Chemical industry for 17 years and have taught seminars on all aspects of chemical handling, reactivity, emergency procedures and chemical reaction in production.
I love tutoring in chemistry and my specialties are:
I try to make understanding chemistry easy by using examples, supplemental resources and strategies to make studying and retention much easier.
I've got a Master's degree in Counseling. I tutored other counseling students in career counseling at the grad school level. Most of my students are high school and adults which seems to be an audience affinity.
Every first session always has an assessment and the students often ask about college level classes. Also, because of my background in industrial and inorganic chemistry, I have a tremendous amount of experience with what many industries/careers entail.
I homeschooled my children who are now on the Dean's List at their college and have advised them in their college careers.
I've also been a part-time pastor who often counsels families and students regarding career and college choices.
I have taught and tutored discrete math for many years. I assisted the local school system and their high school students for the last two years and have helped at the local community college as well.
Topics such as set theory, Boolean algebra, Eurlerian graphs and critical paths, and the traveling salesman problem are typical of what we cover with great success for students.
Passing the GED is an important hurdle. Even though the format is changing, the basic skills and subject knowledge are still the same. I have helped people for many years and customize our sessions to every student. And we have fun in the process.
I have a minor in Biology from Northern Illinois University and have an MA in Counseling with six graduate hours at the MA level on Bioethics which includes very in depth knowledge on human genomics, stem cell research, and recombinant DNA technologies. I also have participated in Bioethics conferences and can provide proof of syllabi, grades - final exams and more. Since we also homeschool our children, I have taught my daughter (age 17) genetics and bioethics.
More and more schools are accepting the GRE, so having a deep broad knowledge on many subjects is essential. The best way to do that is to practice for the GRE. I give practice tests to prep and familiarize students so they know what to expect, know how long it will be and proctor and evaluate the results of the practice test. No student should go in unprepared. I prepare them.
I am very familiar with the MCAT. I have advised students on it and have experience helping them prep for the test. My wife works at a drug store and I helped the husband of the pharmacy manager prep in areas he needed a refresher in.
I also took the MCAT many years ago and remember the rigors of prepping and actually taking the test.
I have a BS in Chemistry from Northern Illinois University. I have worked for two large chemical companies and was a Technical Rep in organic and industrial chemicals. I am quite proficient in the subject and can really help students navigate their way through it.
As part of my MA in Counseling, I had to write treatment protocols in Psychopathology where I became familiar with basic pharmacological concepts including kinetics and dynamics. As a result, I earned 6 hours of credit at the graduate level in Pharmacology. This gave me the knowledge to tutor students on the effects and mechanisms of drugs and agents.
I also have a degree in chemistry and 20 years of tutoring organic and biochemistry too.
I have 20 years experience helping students apply the concepts of physical science to real world applications. I show how to make pictures of things, tabulate any data and immediately begin to apply and solve the problem at hand. This promotes good solving ability and memory retention as well.
I have a BS in Chemistry. I home schooled my children in anatomy and physiology and have also tutored at the college level. I am quite proficient in the subject and can really help students navigate their way through it. I can help with applying questions to real life examples which helps in understanding all major concepts.
I have always found math easy to understand and like solving problems. I am a patient tutor, use examples and go step by step so each student gains confidence in understanding and solving the problems.
I have used QuickBooks and QuickBooks POS for several years. I use it for inventory control, budgeting, accounts receivable, customer information, payroll and just about everything it has available. I am self employed, so wearing a lot of hats has made me pretty proficient in QuickBooks.
