Greetings! My name is Kathryn and I am currently enrolled in a dual Master of Public Health and Doctor of Pharmacy program at Campbell University. I hold a Bachelors of Arts in Chemistry from Clemson University and I have worked as a private Chemistry Tutor and Supplemental Instruction Leader for many years. Supplemental Instruction is a program that emphasizes peer collaboration within tutoring sessions and has developed my ability to tutor multiple students at once. I currently manage all of the Tutoring and Writing Centers (4 centers total) at Campbell and have extensive experience observing and mentoring tutors. This position has helped me to identify useful teaching techniques and develop my own skills as a tutor. In addition, I work as a Writing tutor for the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences at Campbell where I assist graduate-level students with various academic and professional writing assignments. My areas of expertise include reading, writing, and the sciences.
I come from a family of teachers which is why tutoring is such a rewarding experience for me. I love when my tutees experience the "light bulb" moment and make connections between concepts. It is also gratifying to watch students develop confidence in their own abilities and discover learning techniques that work best for them. I believe the role of a tutor is to facilitate, not teach and my hands-on, multi-modal approach has proven to be beneficial to a variety of student learners. I believe in utilizing as many techniques as possible to help students grasp and retain material.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
