Having overcome three childhood learning disabilities to earn my masters degree, I know firsthand how important it is to pursue an education. My own struggles and success drives me to aid and encourage every student as they strive to reach their full potential. As a young child I had a severe stutter and had to work very hard to speak and write properly. I studied at Berea College for two and a half years before finishing my undergraduate work at Charleston Southern University. During my last two years of college, I tutored other students in areas they were struggling. It was then that I realized the joy in tutoring and teaching. I have worked with middle school and high school students for the past sixteen years in the areas of reading, grammar, composition, public speaking and basic math. I have seen students gain proficiency in areas they previously thought were beyond their comprehension. This has taught me that you can truly improve yourself! Hard work does, in fact, pay off.
It is extremely important that you are comfortable as you learn. If you so desire, you may use a quiet study room inside my home; however, I am also available to meet with you at an agreed upon location. Learning any subject can be challenging, but it can also be fun! My passion is in finding creative and engaging teaching methods that will best suit your learning needs. Coaching middle school and high school soccer in Buncombe County for years has allowed me to work with students from various backgrounds. You can achieve your goals and be the student you aspire to be. . . I would love the opportunity to guide you in that process!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
As a life insurance agent for over fifteen years I often had to design my own business cards and brochures. Coaching responsibilities often require me to use Microsoft Publisher to promote camps, clinics and banquets. I have also designed monthly newsletters for nonprofit organizations.
Coaching youth-level soccer is one of my top joys in life. I have coached over twenty-five teams since 1998, have a "C" license from the United States Soccer Federation, and a soccer coaching certificate from the National Federation High School Association. I am currently the Head boys and girls varsity coach at a "3A" high school.
