In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Math is logical relationship among abstract symbols. Once one understands the basics and operations possible with these symbols--numbers--obtaining answers to math problems (the questions) become easy. The key is to read the math problem, to translate it into sequential operations to arrive at the correct solution--"answer". Please email a convenient time and place to meet, introduce ourselves, and with your consent, to begin lessons.
Ecology allows one to focus from close-up to nation-wide or world-wide on the processes of adaptation. One may look at how organisms thrive at thermal vents miles below the Pacific, for example, or how humans relocate nationwide in response to changes in population, environment, organization and technology -- Human Ecology.
Quite articulate in reading, writing and math, I am able to transfer basics to students to help them to build and expand their working knowledge. In summary, lots of education, substitute teaching, life experiences, patience, and love of seeing little faces light up when learning fully equip me to tutor in Elementary (K-6).
Math is easy when one understands the basics of math. The skill of placing/rephrasing the problem/question in mathematical terms will enable the scholar to solve it accurately every time! Practice makes perfect.
Math is simple when one understands the basics of numerical operations. Algebra involves the solution of puzzles--solving for unknown numbers when given the information needed to calculate the answer. Reading the question--understanding what it asks for--enables one to find the correct answer with simple math. Pre-Algebra involves such understanding of the question, use of the "knowns" given to solve for the "unknown"--the answer. Such skills are easily learned with guidance.
An avid reader since early elementary school, reading has always provided a path to travel all over the world, to meet peoples in foreign lands with lives and cultures strange and wonderfully different from my own. Also I have traveled to distant stars in far galaxies and interacted with alien beings in my science fiction travels. Reading provides both a portal to travel to different cultures, worlds, times and places. It also informs, enlightens and educates us all in mathematics, sciences, and all aspects of our wonderful world and universe beyond!
With a BA, MA and coursework beyond in Sociology, combined with work in market research and demographics since, my "Sociological Imagination" is firmly grounded. In addition to substituting sporadically since undergrad days, I also taught intro sociology at both the high school and community college levels. After meeting to discuss your needs, we shall work to supplement your knowledge more fully--to enhance your "Sociological Imagination", as C. Wright Mills called it in his classic book by that name.
Quite well read and literate, educated in the social sciences, and mindful of the utility of clear expository and persuasive prose, I am fully equipped to assist in all phases of your writing endeavors.
